Consumer prices rise 0.6% in US

US consumer prices rose 0.6% in October, the biggest gain since May, evidence the economy may be growing at a rate that threatens to push up inflation.

Increases for gasoline, food, clothing and new cars led the October jump in the consumer price index after it rose 0.2% in September.
