Minister launches new ports policy

Junior marine minister Pat the Cope Gallagher yesterday launched the government’s statement on ports policy.

Mr Gallagher said the policy statement aimed to better equip the port sector and its stakeholders in order to meet national and regional capacity and service needs.

The framework is aimed at reforming the structure of port boards, provide for funding of major projects, encourage private investment and look at the scope for mergers between the various ports.
