DNA researcher receives award

A Galway-based researcher has won the inaugural Embark IEI computer science research achievement award for his research work into DNA sequences.

Shaun Mahony, a researcher working with the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science at NUI Galway won the award for his research project entitled Neural Networks to Identify Functional patterns in DNA Sequences.

His research aims to use artificial intelligence methods to discover patterns of interaction between DNA strands.
