Petroleo Brasileiro, Brazil’s state-controlled oil company, is set build a heavy-oil refinery and petrochemical complex near Rio de Janeiro.

The O Globo daily newspaper reported that the €2.25 billion refinery and petrochemical complex will process about 150,000 barrels a day of crude oil, most heavy-grade oil from Brazil’s Campos Basin, off the coast of Rio.

The most likely site for the refinery and petrochemical complex is in Itaguai, Brazil a suburb of Rio de Janeiro or in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro near the cities of Campos and Macae.
