LIMERICK city and county councils must amalgamate and create a single super-authority to halt the current degeneration of the city, Junior Health Minister Tim O’Malley warned at the weekend.

While Limerick has the fastest growing commercial and industrial centre outside of Dublin, Mr O’Malley said the “current downright bad management and poor planning strategy” could lead to the degeneration of the city.

In a bid to stop that happening, Mr O’Malley, who is a native of Limerick, is lobbying at local and national level for one single super-authority to be set up in the capital of the mid-west.
