BUSINESSES can expect increases in water charges over the next two years, according to a survey carried out by the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland (CCI).

Firms face rise in water charges

It surveyed 30 local authorities and found that 14 of them currently have charges in place for the cost of water services while the remaining 16 told the CCI that they were considering introducing charges.

In some local authority areas water operation charges, the day-to-day cost of providing water services, rose by 67% and the average for authorities running water charges was 17%.
