Chamber unhappy with R&D in Dublin

CORK Chamber chief executive Michael Geary yesterday said the Chamber was “extremely disappointed” to learn of Cabinet’s decision to establish a new State research and training facility at University College Dublin.

“Whilst the Chamber acknowledges the requirement for the enhancement of Ireland’s R&D infrastructure through the establishment of this facility, it believes that it flies in the face of the Government’s decentralisation plans.

“Cork would have been a very suitable location given the strong base of pharma/chem companies, the first-class research facilities at UCC and CIT and a greater choice for career progression.”
