Financials suffer as market dives

THE ISEQ index fell for the 11th consecutive day yesterday, its longest rout since June, 1994, as inflation fears crept in. The exchange dropped 81.72 points to 6473.80.

The financial sector suffered again yesterday, down 242.78 points, as all the major banks lost ground. AIB shed 25c to close at €16.65, Bank of Ireland slid 24c to €12.55, while Anglo Irish and Irish Life & Permanent softened by 26c and 55c respectively.

Construction giant CRH dropped 59c to €20.88.
