Elan Corporation added 8c to €18.05. Elsewhere food group Greencore posted interim results in line with analyst's expectations while management seemed confident of a strong performance from the second half of the year. The stock closed 2c higher at €2.98.

Travel stocks were hit yesterday with the high cost of fuel sending Irish Continental Group 52c lower to €10.58. Budget airline Ryanair slipped 14c to €4.39 after confirming it is to appeal the European Commission's decision on illegal state aid at Charleroi airport.
