RYANAIR could compete with Iarnród Éireann on inter-city routes, according to the carrier’s deputy chief executive officer Michael Cawley.

The airline, which already competes effectively with rail services on the London to Glasgow route, hasn’t ruled out launching a domestic flight service here.

But for now, Ryanair will not expand its Irish services due to what it describes as “over-inflated” airport charges.
