Wyeth sets up €7.7m drug project

INTERNATIONAL drug giant Wyeth has joined forces with University College Dublin (UCD) and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to set up a €7.7 million drug research project.

It will target brain-related illnesses including Alzheimer's Disease, schizophrenia and depression.

The project will bring together scientists from UCD's Conway Institute, which conducts biomedical research, Trinity College Dublin and Wyeth's Neuroscience Discovery Group. SFI, which is the agency responsible for distributing government funding throughout the scientific community, said the project would be the most comprehensive of its kind in the country and was part of an ongoing programme to encourage key industry players to get involved in research initiatives in Ireland.
