THE Irish Exporters Association’s (IEA) Southern Council has welcomed the recent Cork investment by biopharmaceutical giant Amgen but is warning that competitive pressures still remain here.

The announcement by the IEA followed Danish company GN Resound deciding to close its Irish operations, with the loss of 180 jobs, and move production to China.

“Every effort must be made at Government level to alleviate some of the pressure facing Irish exporters,” said IEA Southern Council chairman Ger Downey.
