ISEQ index hits highest level of year

YESTERDAY the ISEQ index rose to its highest level in 2003, mirroring the positive mood across Europe. The ISEQ finished 31.89 points higher at 4824.67.

Anglo Irish Bank was the main contributor to this strong performance, gaining 37c to 12.76. Elsewhere, within the financials, Irish Life & Permanent added 15c to 12.45; Allied Irish Bank advanced 8c to 12.35, while Bank of Ireland edged 3c higher to 10.55.

Over three million shares in Independent News & Media were traded. The shares fell 12c to 1.85. In the construction sector, CRH added 10c to 15.75 and Grafton Group gained 11c to 5.57. Kerry Group rose 40c to 14.70, while Elan Corporation was 25c higher at 5.05.
