Retail sales drop by 0.4% in July

British retail sales fell for the first time in 14 months in July, led by clothing, indicating higher borrowing costs may be starting to crimp consumer spending.

Sales slipped 0.4% after a 1% increase the previous month, the Statistics Office in London said.
