Battery collection service at marts

Carlow: A new feature at the ploughing championships in Co Carlow this year was the promotion of battery recycling by Returnbatt Ltd in conjunction with ENFO, the Government’s Environmental Information Office.

Under existing and planned legislation, batteries are classified as hazardous waste and can no longer be disposed of to landfill. A forthcoming EU Directive requires that all batteries, including primary household batteries, must be recycled.

Returnbatt is offering free collection of batteries to the farming community during October at drop-off points at marts and creameries in 19 counties.
