MOBILE phone operator O2 Ireland yesterday launched its third generation mobile network in six cities.

It said it was ahead of its it regulatory requirements to roll out the new network, which will allow video phones calls and high speed internet access.

The network is up in running in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford and Kilkenny. O2 said the 3G network covers about 35% of the country, which was ahead of the terms of its licence requirements.
