Worker shortage ‘key challenge’

A SHORTAGE of workers will be one of the key challenges for the Irish economy in the years to come, the head of a leading Dublin law firm said yesterday.

Gary Byrne, the managing partner of BCM Hanby Wallace, said employers would need to change their human resource practices to allow greater employee flexibility and to appeal to potential employees from across Europe and further afield.

Mr Byrne was speaking after being appointed to the board of the Federation of European Employers, which represents some of the largest employers on the continent.
