BORROWING money and buying on credit across borders will be much easier and safer for consumers once new EU legislation is adopted.

The rules came a step closer to being implemented when enterprise ministers, including Tánaiste Mary Harney, discussed them in Brussels yesterday.

There are different consumer credit rules across the EU and according to Consumer Commissioner David Byrne this is slowing up cross-border business.
