EU rules will hit 300 Irish firms

TIME is running out for Irish businesses involved in the manufacture of electronic devices to meet stringent EU regulations which take effect in July 2006, the Stokes Research Institute has warned.

The Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment regulation enforces the reuse and recycling of hazardous substances, while the Restriction on Hazardous Substances bans their use in virtually all products.

The regulations will have an impact on about 300 firms here, employing 10,000 people.
