Associated British Foods plc, the owner of British Sugar Plc, agreed to buy Billington food group, a British sugar importer valued at £7.7 million.

Billington had sales of £29.4 million in the year ended in April, according to London-based Associated British Foods. Billington imports raw cane from Mauritius, Malawi and Barbados, which is distributed from its site in Ipswich, England.

The purchase will complement British Sugar’s Silver Spoon retail brand, Associated British Foods said. The parent company’s other brands include Twinings tea, Ovaltine and Ryvita crackers.
