Clerys’ matriarch dies aged 103

Mary Guiney, the chairman of Dublin department store Clerys, died this morning at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin following a short illness. Mrs Guiney was 103.

She took over as chairman of Clerys following the death of husband Denis in 1967.

Originally from Abbeyfeale in Limerick, she married Denis Guiney in 1938. They bought Clerys store in 1940 while also running Guiney's on Talbot Street, Dublin.
