MOBILE operator O2's Irish customer base was largely unchanged between April and June.

O2 gains 4,500 customers

The company said yesterday it ended the quarter with almost 4,500 extra customers, leaving total customer numbers slightly below the 1.4 million mark and 500,000 below those of rival Vodafone.

The number of subscribers paying in advance, which accounts for three-quarters of the total, fell by 2,600 in the three months. But this was offset by an extra 7,000 billed customers.
