THE ISEQ index recovered slightly yesterday following its sharp fall on Wednesday, closing up 13.93 to 6487.73.

AIB added 3c to €16.68, while Bank of Ireland was 10c weaker at €12.45. Anglo-Irish climbed 35c to €11.40 with Irish Life & Permanent climbing 21c to €14.33.

Construction stocks fell overall with CRH giving up 3c to 20.85 despite better than expected US housing starts for the month of September. Kingspan added 2c to €9.70 while McInerney eased 7c to €8.82.

Greencore dipped by 1c to €3.27 with the current year's sugar campaign progressing smoothly. Elan jumped 30c to €7.00 while Eircom gave up 8c to €1.89 after it agreed a settlement with Smart Telecom on credit issues.
