Punters get new daily newspaper

The Sportsman, aimed at gamblers, is Britain’s first new national paper for 20 years, and is due to launch in the spring.

The title will provide coverage of all gaming activities, from football and racing to online poker and financial spread betting, seven days a week.

Among its founders is entrepreneur Max Aitken, the next Lord Beaverbrook, whose family owned the Daily Express during its 1930s heyday.

Mr Aitken, along with the paper’s publisher and editor-in-chief Charlie Methven and chairman Jeremy Deedes witnessed the first dummy copy roll off the press in London this weekend.
