Turkey makes currency change

Turkey: Irish holiday-makers face less complicated currency calculations when they visit Turkey this year.

Turkey makes currency change

The Turkish central bank has moved to tidy up its currency by consolidating one million old Turkish lira into one new unit.

The move will end confusion among tourists and currency traders by scrapping old banknotes that featured amounts of up to 100 million lira (€54), and which were easily mistaken for notes worth €5 or less. The euro is now worth approximately 1.8 new Turkish lira.
