Google shares surge to $170

Google Inc’s shares surged to more than twice the initial public offering price after third-quarter profit and sales more than doubled.

The stock rose 18%, or $18.84, to $168.22 at 10:22am in Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading, after earlier touching $170.71. The shares had risen 76% from the company’s August 18 IPO through yesterday.
