Financial products made clear for consumers

GALWAY’S Westside Library has been chosen by the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority (IFSRA) as one of the first locations for its regional visits.

Financial products made clear for consumers

IFRSRA staff will provide free, independent information on financial products at the library from Wednesday October 27 to Friday 29 .

Consumer director Mary O’Dea said these visits are part of their regional plan to make information on financial products available to consumers throughout the country.

“Our research shows that consumers throughout the country have difficulty understanding information on financial products. Our research in the Connacht/Ulster area shows that 79% of people find written information on financial products difficult to understand and that 80% of people find it hard to get truly independent information on financial products and services. So whether you have difficulty understanding financial products or find yourself being put off by financial jargon, our staff will be available to answer your queries.

“Our ‘It’s your money’ information campaign aims to develop resources for consumers. It is very important for us to talk to as many consumers as we can, to determine the information consumers want and get feedback on issues affecting them. Consumers can also access our website and our lo-call help-line. We recently extended the operating hours of our consumer help-line in order to provide a more accessible service to consumers who may not be in a position to contact us during office hours.”

The Financial Services Regulator will visit the City Library, Grand Parade, Cork, from Wednesday, November 17, to Friday, November 19.
