Smart welcomes cut in LLU charges

Business and residential telecom company Smart Telecom has welcomed the decision by the telecoms regulator to reduce the cost of Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) charges by 50%. The price for each connection will fall from €121 to €58 and eventually to €49.

Chief executive Oisin Fanning said the move was significant for the industry: “We see this decision as one more step in Smart Telecom’s march to provide customers with a significant alternative proposition.

We will be commencing an aggressive rollout of Local Loop Unbundling of the Eircom exchanges in the New Year, which will enable us to offer an entire suite of next generation telecommunications products.”
