Elan in talks to settle death claim

ELAN is to enter into talks to settle a lawsuit taken against the company by the family of a woman who died after taking its multiple sclerosis drug Tysabri.

The family of Anita Smith, 46, launched the action against Elan and American drug company Biogen Idec, last July, after she developed the fatal brain disease PML from taking Tysabri.

Settlement talks will begin on Monday in bid to resolve the case before it reaches the courts.
