BA says pension cut reports untrue

BRITISH AIRWAYS on Sunday dismissed a media report of a proposal to cut staff pensions by more than a third and added that talks on its £1.4 billion (€2.04bn) pension deficit were ongoing.

“We have not tabled any proposals so far and as we said at the beginning of February when we announced our quarterly results, we will be speaking with our trade unions and our staff,” a spokeswoman said.

She was responding to a report in The Business newspaper, which said BA had tabled plans to slash staff pensions by more than a third.

The Transport and General Workers Union also dismissed talk of a formal proposal from British Airways as speculation.
