Arcs set to return
Les Arcs is on course to have his first race for 13 months in the Journal Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle on Saturday.
The eight-year-old, who went from moderate hurdler to Group One winner with victories in the Golden Jubilee Stakes and Darley July Cup in 2006 for Tim Pitt, has been sidelined with a tendon injury.
The problem emerged after he finished unplaced in the Duke of York Stakes at York in May 2007.
He has, however, been steadily brought back to full fitness with new trainer Stewart Parr taking the gelding for a spin in between races at York earlier this month.
“He’s been good since York, no problems, and he’s showing me signs that he has retained his ability,” said Parr.
“He’s done enough work, but he has been off the track for a long time.”
The aim is to try to win the July Cup for a second time.
“That’s the plan, provided he’s okay,” added the Bawtry-based handler.
Les Arcs is as big as 50-1 for the Newmarket feature over six furlongs on July 11.
