Somebody has to be in the house at all times. The family can’t go out together, to the shops, to Mass, to a sporting fixture or a school event, even for a walk, writes Michael Clifford of the Irish Examiner.

If they were to leave and lock up behind themselves, they could well return to find the locks changed, their lives as they knew them gone.
