US senate passes funding package, ending threat of government shutdown

The US senate has passed a 1.2 trillion dollar (£952 billion) package of spending bills in the early hours of Saturday morning, pushing any threat of a government shutdown back to the autumn.

The bill now goes to President Joe Biden to be signed into law.
