Donald Trump’s most recent indictment marked the first time the former president has faced criminal consequence for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. 

A historic moment on its own, the indictment was all the more extraordinary because it came as Trump is running to return to the White House and is the frontrunner to win the Republican nomination.
