Man dies after being hit by Luas
The scene is currently cordoned off for a technical examination, with Luas Green Line services suspended in the area and local traffic diversions in place.
A man in his 70s has died after being struck by a Luas tram in Dublin city centre.
The incident occurred on Marlborough Street at approximately 7pm this evening.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, where the man was pronounced dead.
The scene is currently cordoned off for a technical examination, with Luas Green Line services suspended in the area and local traffic diversions in place.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told the Irish Examiner that the local coroner has been notified of the incident, and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.
The spokesperson additionally said that gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
"Road users and pedestrians with camera footage, including dash-cam, who were in the area of Marlborough Street at the time of the incident are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí," the spokesperson said.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street garda station on (01) 666-8000, the garda confidential line on 1800-666-111, or any garda station.”
No further information in relation to the incident is available as “investigations are ongoing”.
