Women’s World Cup to ‘proceed as planned’ despite shooting incident in Auckland

Both teams involved in Thursday’s contest have assured the public that their players and staff are safe.

FIFA has confirmed the Women’s World Cup opener in Auckland will “proceed as planned” after a shooting in the city’s central business district on Thursday morning left three people dead.

Co-hosts New Zealand are set to play Norway at Eden Park this evening with kick-off scheduled for 0800BST.
