Nine children hurt at carnival after inflatable slide blows over

Nine children were hurt after an inflatable slide came loose from its moorings and blew over at a carnival.

Dorset Police said the children were treated by paramedics at the Swanage Carnival following the incident on Wednesday afternoon.

One of the children was taken to hospital in Poole as a precaution and three others went to the minor injuries unit at Swanage Hospital for further assessment.

The inflatable slide belonged to a private stallholder attending the carnival and police said the Health and Safety Executive had been informed of the incident.

"In total, nine children were treated at the scene," a police spokeswoman said.

"Most were described as walking wounded and were cared for by on-site paramedics before going home. None of the injuries sustained are being described as serious."

An air ambulance also attended the scene but was stood down.

Earlier this year, seven-year-old Summer Grant, from Norwich, died after the bouncy castle she was playing on was blown away by a gust of wind in Harlow, Essex.
