France invokes Lisbon Treaty article in asking EU allies to support military action

France has made an unprecedented demand for its EU allies to support its military action against the so-called 'Islamic State' group, days after attacks in Paris killed at least 129 people.

The move came as the country launched new air strikes on the militants’ stronghold in Syria.
