Pakistani politicians formally condemn Charlie Hebdo cartoons

Pakistani politicians have protested against the publication of images of Islam’s prophet in the satirical French magazine attacked by extremists last week.

The politicians unanimously approved a resolution condemning the publication of the images, state-run TV reported. It did not say how many legislators were on hand for the vote.

After the vote a group of politicians staged a protest in front of parliament in Islamabad, condemning the French magazine.

Two gunmen shot dead 12 people in the attack on the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine that has often angered Muslims by depicting the Prophet Mohammed.

Many Muslims in Pakistan consider such images to be blasphemous.
