Dramatic video surfaces of three-day underwater survivor

In June, 29-year-old cook Harrison Okene made international headlines after he miraculously survived for almost three days in a sunken ship off the coast of Nigeria.

Now, a dramatic video from the diver’s perspective has emerged online.

In the video, posted to LiveLeak.com, the diving team can be heard talking among themselves as they begin what they believed would be a body recovery expedition.

However, at approximately 5:30, the diver wearing the camera gets a sudden shock as a hand reaches out to him.

"There's someone alive!" the diver calls out in surprise.

Okene, the ship’s cook, had survived in a small air pocket in absolute darkness since the sinking of the ship, drinking Coca-Cola from the ship’s stores to stay alive.

Speaking to The Guardian in June, Mr Okene told how he was using the toilet facilities when the ship began to sink and his cabin filled with water.

"I went to the water and touched the diver. He himself shivered from fear. So I stepped back and just held my hand in the waters and waved it in front of his camera so they would see the images above deck," he told the newspaper.

The video leaked online shows that moment approximately five minutes in to the clip.

The resucing team, from DCN Diving, managed to extract Okene from the upside-down sunken wreck 30m below the surface.

The ensuing rescue proved difficult, as Mr Okene had been trapped at significant depth for a long period of time, and his body had to be kept in a decompression chamber for two days.

The DCN team of six divers managed to recover four other bodies from the ship. 10 other crew members from the ship, the Jascon 4, died, as Mr Okene was the only survivor.
