'Fifty Shades of Grey effect’' causing some unusual injuries

UK fire chiefs are asking people to start using a bit more "common sense" to avoid injuries arising from what has been dubbed the 'Fifty Shades of Grey effect'.

The fire service has freed 79 people from handcuffs in the time frame after sex games went wrong after the release of the best-selling erotic novel.

They have also had to extract a man's penis from a toaster.

The London Fire Brigade were called into action when the unfortunate guy got his member jammed in the kitchen appliance, and the incident is just one of 1,300 of embarrassing moments where people have been trapped or stuck since 2010.

Officer Dave Brown said: “Some of the incidents our firefighters are called out could be prevented with a little common sense.

“I don’t know whether it’s the 'Fifty Shades' effect, but the number of incidents involving items like handcuffs seems to have gone up.

“I’m sure most people will be Fifty Shades of red by the time our crews arrive to free them.

“I’d like to remind everyone 999 is an emergency number and should only be used as such."
