Turkish youth killed by Syrian fire
A Turkish teenager has been killed and two other people wounded in a town near Syria’s border by stray bullets fired during renewed clashes between Syrian rebels and Kurdish gunmen.
Fighters from the Kurdish Democratic Union Party have resumed battles with the rebel forces in the Syrian town of Ras al-Ayn after a six-month lull.
Officials said a 17-year-old boy was killed in the town of Ceylanpinar.
More than a dozen Ceylanpinar residents have been wounded by stray fire as the two groups battle for control of Ras al-Ayn.
Turkey's military later said it had fired into Syria in retaliation for the killing of the teenager.
Turkey has repeatedly struck back at the Syrian territory in response to shelling, mortar rounds or fire from across the border, since shells from Syria struck a Turkish village in October, killing five people.
