Israel hits back after rocket attack
A series of rockets and mortars have been fired from Gaza into southern Israel, prompting Israeli air strikes that killed a Palestinian militant.
More than 30 rockets and mortars landed in Israel early today following a volley last night, Israeli police said. Army Radio said one rocket hit a house, but no one was injured.
The Israeli military said its aircraft struck Gaza twice early today.
Gaza health official Ashraf al-Kidra said a Palestinian militant was killed in one of the air attacks.
Residents of the southern Gaza village of Khouzai said a mosque there was hit for the second time in weeks.
Hamas officials said security forces have been ordered to evacuate their bases, fearing Israeli retaliation.
