At least €64 million stolen in cyber attacks

A wave of cyber attacks is thought to have stolen at least €64 million from bank accounts in Europe, the US and elsewhere.

The attacks - known as Operation High-Roller - were an attempt to steal between €60 million and €2 billion from at least 60 banks .

A joint report by Guardian Analytics and McAfee has said that the attackers targeted high-value accounts in Europe - before moving on to the United States and Latin America.

They said that the thefts mark a 'serious new threat' to banks around the world - and the final tally of money stolen could rise significantly.
