A number of Mahatma Gandhi lookalikes in India have set a new world record.

Nearly 500 pupils from a school in Calcutta donned wigs, fake moustaches and round spectacles to dress up as the political icon as they took part in a march in his honour.

Gandhi's granddaughter Usha Gokani said: "It's a great feeling. I am moved by the passion for the father of the nation displayed by these children."

It comes after the previous record for the number of people dressed as Gandhi was set in 2010 when 255 pupils dressed up as him in southern India.
