Man to divorce wife over 1940s infidelity

An Italian man is set to divorce his wife of 77 years over an affair she had in the 1940s.

The 99-year-old man - who has been identified by lawyers as Antonio C - and the 97-year-old woman look set to be the oldest couple ever to divorce.

Antonio discovered his wife - who is known as Rosa C - had betrayed him when he found love letters in an old chest he was looking through just before Christmas.

Lawyer Anna Orecchioni explained: "The husband decided to file for divorce after finding the love letters. He felt betrayed and unable to carry on with the marriage which has lasted 77 years."
