Thrice-married woman 'totally surprised' to be labelled bigamist

A British woman says it was a "total surprise" to be called a bigamist despite marrying three times but never divorcing her first husband.

Danielle Loxton was recently informed her first marriage to first husband Peter Clarke has never been finalised, despite claiming she was told it was officially over in 1996.

She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "I'll never forget hearing that police officer tell me I was a bigamist.

"It was a total surprise. When they said the divorce from Peter had never happened, I thought I would be sick. I remember speaking to solicitors before marrying Steve and them saying it was fine.

"I then moved house and the paperwork never reached me."
