An Alaskan man has survived a snowdrift by eating frozen beer.

Clifton Vial, 52, had to endure temperatures as low as -28°C for three days when he got stuck in thick snow after crashing his car in the town of Nome, and his only form of sustenance were frozen cans of Coors Light, the Anchorage Daily News reports.

He explained: "I cut the lids off and dug it out with a knife.

"I made an attempt at digging myself out and realised how badly I was stuck. I would have been frostbit before I ever got the thing out of there."

He was wearing trainers, jeans and a jacket when he got stuck and he used a sleeping bag liner to keep warm, turning on his car engine from time to time to make use of the heater.
