Support for the Taliban among Afghans has steadily declined in recent years and people strongly back a government peace initiative, according to a survey funded in part by the US government.

But the poll released today by the San Francisco-based Asia Foundation also showed a population weary of insecurity and corruption, and distressed by poverty and corruption.
