Berlusconi resigns
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has presented his resignation to President Giorgio Napolitano, bringing to an end his 18-year-career in politics.
Former EU Commissioner Mario Monti is the favourite to replace him.
Berlusconi had promised to go after new austerity measures were passed.
Berlusconi was jeered by an angry crowd as he drove away from the presidential palace in Rome.
